- AbstractDuring period 1985-1987 have carried out research works aiming, on the one hand, the knowledge of the main species of family Noctuidae (Lepidoptera) which contribute to defoliate the broad leaved stands in the oak and sessile oak vegetation areas of Romania. In the other hand we have investigated the qualitative characteristic of the oak pedunculate leaves as food for E. chrysorrhoea caterpillars, to determine the defensive chemical compounds, aminoacids and organic nutrients, as well as biochemical compound of the caterpillars as a base of relationships between host trees and this insect pest, regarding the knowledge of the degree of resistance of oak to defoliation. The research works have been carried out in oak pedunculate, greyish oak, sessile oak and mixed stands in plain and hill regions of Transilvania, Banat and Moldavia. From principal results we mention the following: A. Track down and integrated control of Noctuidae. In the forest of Transilvania and Banat we have tracked down the moths by catching at ight and pheromone traps 81 species of Noctuidae, the most frequently being the species of genus Orthosia, followed by Eupsilia satellitia and Conistra vaccinii. In the larval stage, in the forest of Transilvania, Banat and Moldavia we tracked down 21 species which live together in the crown of trees having as host oak pedunculate, greyish oak, sessile oak, hornbeam, field maple, small leaved lime tree, elm, poplar, willow, maple, tartarian, maple and common hawthorn. We identified the following species: Orthosia stabilis, O. cruda, O. munda, O. incerta, O. gothica, Eupsilia satellitia, Conistra vaccini, Agrochola macilenta, A. helvola, Mesogona acetosellae, M. oxalina, Cosmia affinis, C. pyralina, C. trapezina, Amphipira pyramidae, Ipimorpha retusa, Polymixis rufocincta, Lithophane ornithpus, L. furcifera, Brachionycha sphinx, Xylena exoleta. The highest mean population density of the caterpillars have been recorded on oak pedunculate and sessile oak in pure stands. In the pupal stage have tracked down in the soil 35 species of Noctuidae, among which 5 species have as host plant in the larval stage several species of herbs, feed on the trees only in the young ages of the caterpillars, prevailing, the same species of Orthosia, too. The mean ensity of female pupa populations under the tree projections upon square metre of soil have been found out again in oak pedunculate and sessile oak stands, but sometimes in the mixed stands, too. The natural mortality of pupa during period of research works have been caused by entomopathogen disseases. To prevent the mass multiplication and to control the most important species of Noctuidae is opportune to apply the measure from the schemes of integrated control of the main species of Lepidoptera with associated defoliating caterpillars from the broad leaved stands in the same ecological ...
