Abstract
On the basis of results achieved on experimental areas studied over a long period models have been elaborated in Czechoslovakia for the tending of spruce stands growing, on the one hand, on sites obviously less endangered by harmful abiotic factors (this mainly concerns acid sites in high hill positions, higher, medium and lower positions and fertile sites at lower positions), on the other hand cultivated on sites which are constantly endangered by these harmful factors (these are mainly nutritive, gleizated, sodden and peaty sites in medium and higher locations). On sites threatened by snow and wind there are intensive reductions in the number of trees per hectare during the first cleaning and the later quality thinning aimed at caring for 300-400 target trees per hectare which is one of the basic conditins for the later higher stability of spruce stands and their resistance from the start to the pressure of wet snow and later also to winds.
