It is possible to abtain a large amount of important informations on the nutrient status of a given haitat by subjecting the results of foliar analysis taken separately from 20 - 30 trees representing all diameter classes to an adequate set of statistical methods. Analysis of multiple regression puts the particular elements in order of their current influence on the development of the assimilating organs (or biomass production) and points out the deficit elements and those in relative excess. Analysis of the path coefficients, on the other hand, defines the direct effect of each of the nutrient elements under study on the development of the assimilating organs and the indirect effects inducted by interaction among the remaining elements. Joint consideration of all informations obtained by the statistical methods used helps assess the nutrition intensity of the tree stand under study and predict the probability of response to the fertilizer applied.
