Abstract
Inheritance of 6 enzyme systems was investigated using horizontal starch gel electrophoresis in ♀ gametophytes and embryos of Pinus henryi [P. tabulaeformis]. A single zone of activity was noted for glutamate dehydrogenase (GDH). Two zones of activity were present for leucine [cytosol] aminopeptidase, isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH), phosphoglucomutase (PGM) and shikimate dehydrogenase (SKDH), whereas 4 zones were observed for glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase [aspartate aminotransferase] (GOT). The segregation of isoenzymes in ♀ gametophytes of 17 presumptively heterozygous trees revealed Mendelian inheritance for most of the enzyme systems assayed. Slightly distorted segregation was found at Gdh and Skdh1. Embryo tissues were analysed to infer whether the enzymes were oligomeric or not. Significant linkage was found for Got1-Got2, Pgm-Skdh1 and Got1-Idh2, but not in all trees investigated.
