Abstract
The larchthrips is one of the most harmful insects on young plantations of Larix decidua Miller in Europe. Only a female passes the winter. At the present time only Norway- and Sitka spruce are known to harbour overwintering adults. It was found that the Douglas fir, the Weymouth pine and the Himalaya cedar also hosts in which overwintering takes place. The exact description of the hiding places an these tree species is gien. these hiding places are colonized with different densities related to their location on the trees. The density of the larchthrips on overwintering hosts also depends on the host's position in relation to larches, the direction of prevalent winds and the light the thrips receive.
