In Brazil there is a species, Paratecoma peroba (Record) Kuhlm, which can substitute Teca in shipbuilding. It can be found in forests of Southern Brazil, in Espirito Santo Stata. It develops slowly when cultivated as all valuable native woods do. The Teca could play a very important part in our future. Thus, in 1958, on the grounds of the "Escola Superior de Agricultura "Luiz de Queiroz", the task of introducing and cultivating the Teca was begun. The results have been very satisfactory, for the species has shown excellent vigor, high rusticity and health. They were measued at two years and implicated an average height of 2.95 m and a D.B.H. of .028 m. One year later, at three years, we found an average height of 4.85 m and a D.B.H. of .052 m. Calculated basal area of 4.7728 m2/ha. The calculated rate of increase in diameter and height for the period of one year were 59% and 64% respectfully.
