The section for the influence of exhalations on biocenoses at the Institute for landcape biology, in collaboration with the Commissary of the Slovak National Council for Forest and Water Management, arranged th IInd Symposium on exhalation problems in Slovakia. This Symposium took place in the House of scientific workers in Smolenice, in 14.-15.10.1967. The aim of the Symposium was: 1. To start from the previous Symposium in 1963. To develop the program and goals determined by this Symposium and oriented towards the elimination of the negative effects of industrial exhalations on man and his living environment. 2. To afford to a broad circle of workers pertaining to different specialities a picture on the actual state of pollutioning the air and the whole living environment by industrial exhalations, on the state of research work and technical measures. 3. To develop the collaboration and co-ordination between various scientific, research, productional-exploitational, economic and their working places dealing with the given problems. 4. To show new ways leading to the solution and elimation of these negative factors. 5. And not last, to actively contribute to the formation of norms and legal measures for protecting the cleanness of air, water and the whole living environment. 6. To ascertain and preventively fight against new industrial toxic products. For mastering these wide and complicated questions which acutally form an all-world problem, it was necessary to involve a broad circle of specialists and institutions. At the Symposium 86 workers from 49 working places participated There were presented 35 reports and 40 participants took part in the discussions. The relatively large participation of technically oriented workers was a good help, in comparison with the previous Symposium. From the technical research, progressive air conditioning and modern technology of the production, one may expect in the future, an essential lowering of the undesirable industrial exhalations. With regard to the extent and complicacy of the problems, and for facilitating their deeper solutions, the arrangers devided the meeting in following thematical groups: A. Physical-biochemical problems, B. Biotic and abiotic landscape components, C. Man and living environment, D. Air conditioning and production technology. The results of the Symposium were summarized in a resolution which gives a picture on the actual state of industrial exhalations, on the state of research in this domain and formulate a series of measures for eliminating the negative effects of exhalations.
