Plant Diversity and Utilization of Rattan Gardens - A Contribution to Participatory Biodiversity Conservation within Benuaq Tribe in East Kalimantan Indonesia : Dissertation
Study on rattan gardens (RGs) was conducted in Muara Bomboy village, belonging to Benuaq tribe. It is situated in the Kedang Pahu region. Damai subdistrict, West Kutai Regency, East Kalimantan Province. Biodiversity within RGs, plant utilization, and plantanimal relationship were investigated. Additional research formed upon management and economy of RGs. Plant diversity study was conducted in collaboration with 3 students of the Faculty of Forestry of the Mulawarman University (Herlina Susanti, Eva Limbong, Siti Aisah), as well as economic study (Elviana). The study of the vegetation in RGs used the phytosociological method of Braun-Blanquet. A total 12 types of RGs were distinguished based on site, age and treatment. Plants were classified based on height layer and diameters into T1 (plant with height 10 m and over, and DBH 10 cm and more), T2 (plants with height between 1.5 m and 10 m), and T3 (plants with height below 1.5 m). Study on plant uses, plants-animals relationship and management aspect used interview methods.
