- AbstractA basic model is given of damage development in the crown of deciduous trees. From this model, a system is made for inventory of damage to birch. The system, which is presented in the form of a set of fiels instructions, consists of variables measuring intensity of damage and stages of damge development. The variables describe the changes accurate enough to be used in causal discussions. The system is, in principle, applicable to all deciduous tree species, but a variability between species concerning the appearance of the changes in the tree crown must be considered. How to account for the results is shown by examples from Swedish inventories. How to evaluate the results will be exemplified after treatment of the data from recent inventories of birch in Sweden.
