- AbstractDecomposition processes and genesis of soil organic layerwere studied in a Fagus-Quercus forest in Kyoto, Japan. The soil organic layer showed a mull type in the bottom parts of a forest slope covered with Fagus-Quercus. In the ridge parts of the slope, a moder type humus accumulation was observed. The decomposition processes and structures of soil organic matters were studied for the two humus types, i.e. mull and moder types. The decomposition processes in the soil organic layers were shown in the attached photographs.
