- AbstractAlthough the area of Slovenia extends over 20,273 km2, it is geologically and geomorphologically quite diverse. Because Slovenia lies on the contact of two tectonic plates (Adriatic in SW and Eurasian in NE), it remains geologically active. Earthquakes, slides, floods, erosion and deposition and other geological processes are quite common phenomena. Also, soil forming factors such as lithological parent material, relief, climate, hydrological conditions, vegetation types and human and animal activities vary, consequently Slovenian soil cover is variable as well. Of the aforementioned natural factors, parent material and relief exert the strongest influence on soil forming
processes in Slovenia.
