In order to find out the effect of snowshoes on work saf ety in motor-manual cutting in winter conditions, a risk analysis and an OWAS analysis were made from videotapes. Only two loggers were studied. Risk situations were evaluated against the tree, its volume and the time consumed, taking into account he work difficulty factors. The effect of the stem size on the numbeof risk situations was also studied. In some conditions less risk situations o ccurred when using snowshoes at small or middle-size trees. With large trees nodifference were found between the methods. No differences were found in workin g postures between four working methods, but the postures were worse with largetrees than with small trees.
