Abstract
This text, intended primarily for university instruction, provides a cohesive study of soil chemistry, an examination of the modern views in the descipline with a clear indication of the underlying basic chemistry involved. It provides quantiative applications illustrated with detailed examples, and outlines at scope of soil pollution phenomena as seen from the soil chemist's point of view. In addition to its value as a textbook at an advanced undergraduate level, this work will serve equally well as an introduction to soil chemistry for professional scientists outside the field. More advanced topics will be treated in a forthcoming companion volume.
