  • Abstract
Lepyrus palustris Scopp. lives in dense populations in the main regions where poplars are grown intensively, representing one of the most significant pests on poplars and willows in Yugoslavia. The occurrence of this pest, which has been found in wide areas, is manifested parallel with the raising of poplars on extensive areas in Yugoslavia, though the occurrence is of a recent date. It seems that the occurrence leads from an earlier data but their number was much smaller in localities where poplars and willows were grown, and by creating favorable ecological conditions e.g. nutrition, and growing poplars as a singly crop or plant, the pest has spread, as observed by many growers. This statement corroborated by the fact that almost all the hitherto research workers Sacharov, 1915; Woroniecka - Siemaszkowa, 1928; Magerstein, 1932; Roestler, 1935; Richter, 1959; described this pest species as the pest of willow, and on account of this e.g. Roesler, 1935; Richter, 1959, and S.M. Laslo, 1960 called it "the willow snout weevil", and it is also claimed that it gradually adapted itself to new conditions, created by man.
