  • Abstract
The ephiphytic and epixylic lichen associations were recorded in the Berchtesgaden national park and its forefield (Bavaria, Germany). The investigated transect reaches from the 'Untersberg' in the north, where the high amounts of precipitation and relative low differences between minimum and maximum temperature cause an oceanic climate, to the warmer, drier plateaus of the 'Steinernes Meer' in teh south. The investigation area includes all elevations from the submontane-montane valleys or premountains to the subalpine-alpine zone of the mountains. A total of 1300 records of epiphytic and epixylic lichen associations on decidous and coniferous trees and on decaying wood is presented. The phytosociological surveys were done according to the method of BRAUN-BLANQUET (1964). From the data material 35 lichen associations were differentiated. The composition, ecology and distribution of the different communities was clarified in 25 tables and 35 figures. Additionally the successions of each association was commented. The Calicietum trabinelli, the Ptychographetum flexellae and the Peltigeretum praetextatae were described as new. A total of 367 lichen species was found. 30 species are new for the investigation area (Arthonia exilis, Bacidia naegelii, Calicium adspersum, Catillaria nigroclavata, Lecidea pullata, Leptogium minutissimum, Ochrolechia szatalaensis, Pachyphiale fagicola and others). Especially Pertusaria waghornei was found more often than expected. Rinodina roboris is new for Germany.
