A computer program is presented which can be used to determine the area the shadow of a tree covers in a given time period in a day. The program also calculates the amount of time any portion of the total area has been shaded. The program was developed to determine where to place light measuring photoelectric diodes under the crowns of tees as part of an effort to model the relationship of light extinction to leaf area in Longleaf Pine (Pinus Palustris Mill.). The program provides coordinates where sensors should be located based on the user selected spatial patterns.
