  • Abstract
Determinations of some ion (K, Mg, Mn, Ca) concentrations were made of the last formed wood, vascular cambial zone with conductive phloem, the youngest and the oldest nonconductive phloem, by atomic absorption spectroscopy in three apparently unaffected and three heavily affected silver fir (Abies alba Mill.) trees. Results were correlated with electrical resistance (ER) readings in analysed tissues. The tissues of unaffected trees were characterized by higher K content and correspondingly lower ER. The concentrations of Mg, Mn and Ca did not differ significantly between affected and unaffected trees and had no detectable effect on ER readings.
