A compilation of seven-year investigations of silver fir (Abies alba Mill.) decline in Slovenia. The results of (a) long term monitoring of tree condition and (b) determination of crown class, both using the electrical resistance (ER) method, (c) anatomical and physiological interpretation of ER readings, (d) phenology and reproductive growth of unaffected and variously affected trees, (e) occurrence of epicormic branches, (f) growth depression, (g) occurrence of wet-heart and radial distribution of moisture content, (h) occurrence of slime cells in bark and traumatic resin canals in wood, and (i) the response of wood and bark to mechanical wounding are given.
