  • Abstract
The effect of copper and nickel pollution on survival and hyphal growth of Gremmenialla abietina was investigated by inoculating the fungus inside Scots pine shoots with different levels of these metals. The frequency of Gremmeniella abietina isolations was measured after six weeks incubation. There was no correlation between the concentration of the heavy metals in the shoots, and isolation frequency of Gremmeniella abietina. The differences in the results of the current study and an earlier in vitro study are discussed. The fungus remained alive more often in the shoots with 1.5 year old female cone, compared with the shoots without a cone. The frequency of Gremmeniella abietina isolations correlated positively with the density of Scots pine trees around the studied trees.
