- AbstractThe study was carried out in a young stand of Pinus sylvestris in Southern Poland during 1988-1993. Its purpose was to determinate the severity of infection of trees by Lophodermella sulcigena and to obtain the information on the expansion of this disease in the stand where the Lophodermella sulcigena attack was for the first time observed in 1983. Each year the evaluation of infection severity was determinated on current year needles on 50 trees permanently marked. The number of diseased trees varied during the individual years ranging from 28.3%. In total the disease symptoms were observed on 82.0% of trees during the 6-year period, but on only 14.0% of trees these symptoms were present every year. Out of 50 trees investigated only three were very severely attacked by Lophodermella sulcigena. The high level of infection was observed on these trees during the entire, or almost entire study period.
