Abstract
The investigation was executed at the Remote Sensing Center of the FAO in the context of the currant world forest inventory of the FAO. It concentrates on the mapping of the forested area of Liberia based on NOAA AVHRR (Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer) satellite data. The study investigated the possibilities of 1 Quadratkilometer resolution AVHRR data for a forest classification on 1:1,000,000 scale using digital methodology, especially for a continous forest cover monitoring.
