Scandinavian countries have long traditions in forest inventory and management. Consequently, remote sensing has been adapted to the traditional requirements. Aerial photos have been applied extensively for the delineation of forest compartments. Remote sensing has been used for national forest inventories primarily in Finland. Experiences of using numerical interpretation with sample plots measured in the field are promising. New video based techniques may become useful.
