The paper gives some examples of the use of satellite imagery for forest inventories in Middle Europe. It demonstrates the production of forest maps, scale 1:100,000 and 1:200,000. An other example is forest type mapping and mapping of dead wood in the National Park Bayrischer Wald. And one investigation shows the ability of Landsat TM data for mapping stands destroyed by storms and for forest decline in the Fichtelgebirge.
