The paper presents first scientific informations on the phenotypic variation of beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) in Romania. Under the preconditions determined by a wide vegetation range (the widest range among all the species of forest interest in Romania), which varies a lot in terms of environmental conditions on one hand, and by a long lasting and complicated evolutional process with phylogenic aspects not completely explained on the other, the research on the phenotypic variation shows an outstanding polymorphism.
