Abstract
One hundred thirty beech stands located in central Europe have been analysed using 6 polymorphous enzymatic loci. Only two loci (peroxidases 1 and 2) seem to be partly to selection, particularly in northern Yugoslavia, their allelic frequencies varying according to climatic changes in the countries studied : for the former (PX1), the higher the climatic variety the more important the total allelic diversity ; for the latter (PX2), the total diversity varies essentially as afunction of the altitudinal range of beech stands. F-statistics reveal a general tendency to a heterozygote deficit ; as the self-fertilization rate of Beech is low, isolation by distance may be responsible for the observed deficits.
