The forest as an ecological system fulfills the production and by production functions which can be permanently reproduced under purposeful management. The basis of purposeful management in forests aiming at the improvement of their functions are the achievements of forest management from which other forestry activities are being derived. Planned differentiated management according to separate forest functions has been influenced by the action of natural and anthropological harmful factors. Therefore, a part of the basic material for differentiated management of forest from the viewpoint of the prevention and protection against harmful factors is the investigation of forest protection resulting in protection typification and prognosis. In the emissin areas apecial protection investigation has been carried out. Forests in these areas have been classified into groups of special purpose forests and they have been managed according to individual managemend directions.
