For decades the foresters of the Forest enterprise Kranj have tried to solve the problem of the damage caused by the red deer in the forests of Jelendol and the Karavanken Mountains. Reference is made to the research carried out by the Institute of Forest and Wood Economy performed from 1955 until 1990 and to red deer managing after 1974 when the red deer community of the Karavanken Mountains in cooperation with the Hunting Organization of Slovenia and Carinthia was established. Suggestions are given how to remove forest damage caused by red deer, which demands the involvment of the hunters and foresters on both sides of the Karavanken Mountains. The present situation is not very promising.
