The purpose of the study, based on the data acquired in different researches was to define those regions in Slovenia which were under the influence of the polluted air from the Sostanj steam plant. The data of the forest damage inventory in 1987 were studied and the results of the bioindication sites as well as the data on the air pollution and forest damage in the vicinity of great emission sources were analysed. The following forms of the regions under the influence of the Sostanj steam plant were roughly defined: a joint emission area and extrazonal, interferential and potential emission areas. An area for the selection of research objects for the carrying out of detailed research into the influence of the Sostanj steam plant on the ground and vegetation was also selected.
