  • Abstract
    On the basis of mating experiments, Heterobasidion annosum (Fr.) Bref. has been divided into two major intersterility (IS) groups, P and S, and one minor intersterility group, F, in Europe. We studied the phylogenetic differences between these intersterility groups by using the polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-based mitochondrial rDNA sequence analysis. P group sequences differed at one position in the small mitochondrial rDNA area, and at three positions in the large mitochondrial rDNA region from the other IS group sequences. These DNA sequence data indicated that P is separate from the other IS groups of Heterobasidion annosum.
