International agreements commit countries to preserve biodiversity by regular assessment and improved forest management. The methods applied for the assessment of biodiversity should be internationally comparable, and an intense exchange of information and experiences is needed to meet this target. EFI's Workshop 'Assessment of Biodiversity for Improved Forest Management' gave valuable material and ideas for researchers working in the field.
