The Forest Engineering Service in Torrent and Avalanche Control is a federal service of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. Its structure is conform to the political organization of Austria. On the regional level are 7 authorities in the Union States (Bundesländer), one of them for 3 Union States (Wien, Niederösterreich, Burgenland) and 29 agencies at the level of one or more districts. Due to the special problems of torrent and avalanche control in Austria an education was established on University level for foresters and on the level of Forest Education Center for foremen. For postgraduate education a journal is edited and meetings and seminars and workshops are organized. The journal is edited by the society of engineers in Torrent and avalanche control and is distributed international.
