The natural habitat of Alpine ibex is the high-alpine area in and above the upper timber line. More or less severe game damage by ibex has been proved there. Several authors agree that high population dynamics without natural regulative forces leads to over-exploitation of those problem areas and, consequently, causes damage to forest stands in the sensitive uppermost forest belts. Exact analyses of the causes and effects of browsing, striking and bark peeling damage by ibex are required to allow preventive measures regarding the minimizing of damage.
