Price-size curves show the relationship between standing timber value and average tree size. They are used to estimate the future value of timber crops. The price-size curves presented here are based on timber sales over the period 1957-1988. They are only intended to be used for long-term decision making, because market forces will play a large part in setting timber prices in any one year. The price-size curves have been adjusted so that they are equal to the average real price over the period 1957-1988. There is little evidence to support either a rise or fall in real softwood timber prices in the future, so the curves can be used to estimate future prices.
