Reforms being in progress concerning the operation of a new market economy and cutting back a centralised and controlled economy started in Hungary in 1968. The political changes of 1989 accelerated this development and made also start a new track in terms of qualification. After the accomplishment and creation of the conditions of a plural parliament democracy and multi-party system proprietorship and production structure have radically changed. Real civil organisations and interest-protective institutions appeared. All these transformations caused a temporary economic crisis. However, during the past years marks of stabilisation also turned up. Operation conditions of a free market economy have taken shape, which increased the economic efficacy. This study, starting from the frame-conditions of Hungarian forest management, analyses the main characteristics of the changes, refers to the results and also to new kinds of conflicts and their solutions.
