The Editorial on page 3 drew attention to the centenary this year of Mendel's publication which laid the foundations of the science of genetics. Mendel's experiments on bees, and his work for beekeeping organizations at an important period, have been much less fully known than his studies on inheritance. Oldrich Vecerek, a native of Brno where Mendel's work was done, has sought out details of the beekeeping part of the story of Mendel's life, and has brought his findings together in this article.
