Direct determinations of mercury in the environment reflect industrial emissions very sensitively. This way of monitoring is very efficient and a quite practical way to determine the effects of (mercury) emissions in the environment. The Austrian Bio-Indikator Grid allowas the simultaneous determination of several nutrient and pollutant elements and could already successfully clarify over a considerable time-period where and when significant pollutions in the environment occured.
