The variation in m3/decare between stands within strata is estimated for approximately 14.000 stands. When the stands are divided into 30 strata, the mean standard deviation is 3.3 m3/decare, which corresponds to a coefficient of variation of 31%. In 2 areas it is tested whether there are differences in mean m3/decare within strata between properties. It is found a significant difference between properties in most of the strata, but the number of properties with deviating stratum mean value is rather small. Stand volume estimation by means of strata mean values, seems to give a larger random error than stand volume estimation by means of aerial photographs.
