Abstract
The difference between the genus Xyleborinus and Xyleborus will be discussed and figured. Scince Ratzeburg has described his Xyleborinus saxesenii with the ending -ii, this original spelling is valid. Xyleborinus alni is discriminated from Xyleborinus saxesenii by bigger size, larger and more pointed, thorn-shaped bent tubercles on the elytral declivity and a somewhat shorter pronotum. There are new records of findings of the Xyleborinus alni in Austria mentioned. Xyleborinus angustatus is not a synonym of Xyleborinus saxesenii.
