The plants studied originated from 42 natural habitats chiefly in southern Poland. For the first five species the results are in accordance with those previously obtained by Manton (1932). The chromosome number of C. Opizii is reported here for the first time. The above results show that diploid species with the somatic number 16 prevail among the group of the species investigated; the species C. flexuosa (2n = 32) possibly represents an autotetraploid of C. hirsuta. According to the opinion of taxonomists, these two species are clusely related.
