Abstract
Olea eurpaea L., the olive, is a plant of great historic importance, as well as of major economic value. As a cultivated plant its point of origin is lost in the mists of time. It could habe arisen in the fertile crescent, the Nile delta (Newberry, 1937) or the eastern Mediterranean, area where the remains of olive endocarps have been found in some of the earliest archaeological excavations.
