Genetic monitoring tracks changes in the genetic dynamics and characteristics of populations over time by means of specific metrics and relevant parameters. We identify two key indicators pivotal for biodiversity monitoring of forest ecosystems: the trends in genetic diversity of populations, and the rate and amount of gene flow within mating systems. These indicators jointly describe the genetic state of populations and their connectivity, allowing predictions on their ability to adapt, as well as their future distribution.Genetisches Monitoring untersucht die Veränderung genetischer Merkmale von Populationen anhand spezifischer Einheiten und relevanter Parameter. Dabei werden zwei Schlüsselindikatoren erhoben, die für die Überwachung der biologischen Vielfalt von Waldökosystemen von zentraler Bedeutung sind: die Entwicklung der genetischen Vielfalt von Populationen sowie das Ausmaß des Genflusses zwischen Teilpopulationen. Diese Indikatoren beschreiben gemeinsam den genetischen Zustand von Populationen und ihre Vernetzung und ermöglichen Vorhersagen über ihre Anpassungsfähigkeit und ihr Ausbreitungspotential.
