The minor yield of small private forests which is evident from the statistics when compared to the other categories of forest enterprises (by survey) and annual fellings per Hektar) are examined in detail in making use of the results of the working plan for the forest district of Zell a.H. There are no differences in site quality between the various categories of forest enterprises. The difference in yield has its reason in 1. the prevalling slow growing hardwoods and stand types with low increment in the small private forests and the relatively small timber production resulting therefrom:2. the fact that most of the small private forests enterprises have the build up an appropriate standing volume; 3. the unfavourable conditions as to the management and the size of the small enterprises.
