The author describes methods and results of a survey of game damage to forest crops in Rhenish-Palatnate and shows ways of protection against this pest. The woodland area in Rhenish-Palöatinate was in 1952 201,615 hectares State Forests, 399,871 hectares Communal Forests and 128,172 hectares Private Forests together 729,658 hectares with a stock of 8,963 Red deer, 36 Fallow deer, 376 Mufflons, 51,230 Roe deer. The figures habe to be increased to 9,470 for Red deer and 68,000 for Roe deer if the game reservates of the Occupation Foreces are included. Red deer occured in three areas in 1880, viz. The Montabaur Mountains and the Soon Forest in the administrative district of Coblence, and the High Forest in the district of Treves. The Red deer had been extinguished in all other parts, as the Eifel and the Palatinate proper, after the revoultion of 1848.
