The various methods that could be used to assess the impact of burning and grazing on African savanna are presented in this paper. The initial data collected from the fire polots isted in the wildlife habitats in Borgu Game Reserve are used as example for the description of the methods. The problems of site chossing, plot replication and the sampling errors that could arise from lack of coherence are fully discussed. Because of the variable moisture contents of different parts of African savanna it is stressed that burning experiments should be carried out in the different areas before a general solution could be adduced for solving fire problems.
