By the method presented, it should be possible to establish both the degree of responsibility of particular industrial plants for damage to tree-stands, and also a forecast of air poliution from projected new sources of emission. The problem as a whole has been adapted for calculation by computers. This enables solutions of maximal accuracy to be applied on the one hand, and on the other it is possible at the same time to introduce a very wide variance of meteorological coefficients. The question of the proper choice of diffusion coefficients, has been solved in an entirely original manner. A method of combined calculations has been worked out by making use of the forest associations themselves as indices of the spread of pollution. A conventional unit of the influence of poliution on woods has been introduced, the "corrected dose of poliution". This is the sum of the products of pollution concentrations through the relevant periods of time of their occurrence S.t. multiplied by the function f/S.t/. The introduction of the function f/S.t/ is to correct the established dose of pollution in proportion to the degree of damage to the woods. Both initial and calculating formulas have been given, as well as a computer calculation programme.
