Based on several mapping methods, the regeneration capability of oak in the Land Brandenburg is described as a significant input parameter for reasonable and cost efficient regeneration methods, particularly of the north-east German Lowlands, old oak trees, serving as seed trees for spreading of oak in pine stands, are found in almost all forest districts, independent from the natural site. The occurrence depends on trophic level and water supply of the stands and decreases from north to south. Old oak trees along roads can - if genetically suitable - extend considerably the potential of oak in forest areas. For the integration of natural regeneration of oak into the envisaged stand strucutre, the development of a practice oriented inventory method of the structure and acceptance of natural regeneration by forest stands is suggested. Important components of the hereon based silvicultural planning are the integration of existing mother trees and the use of the natural spread by jay in originally pure Scots pine stands.
