    In connexion with the FFH-guidelines and the water guidelines of the EU as well as modern forestry programms of the Thuringia State Forest Administration, the professional development of forest water-courses is getting more and more important. An essential objective in this field is the re-establishmend of the migration possibilities for water organisms and near to the water surface living flying insects. This implies the re-establishment of whole water networks. The Kohlbach project was initiated to compare different construction models of crosses between watercourses and forest tracks and delivers important results concerning ecologically adapted solutions in this field. It was shown that the costs of the different construction models are mounting quickly with growing demands on hydraulic power, solidity and utilizability. Especially in constructing passes or fords at larger watercourses it is necessary to weight up the demands carefully. Concerning the ecological adaptation, each of the concepts presented in this study meets the requirements of a modern forestry that is guided by the principle of sustained yield.
