This article highlights the scope of change in conditions and silvicultural viewpoint as pertains to our society. It can be generally stated that: - People are moving from rural to urban regions, - Cities are overpopulated and their inhabitants feel stressfully confined, - They are losing their affinity to nature. All the above has a grave impact on forests, and foresters will be forced to handle. Foresters and forest owners need to improve their public relations, cultivate contacts to environmentalist associations, speak in unison and display more self-confidence. Forestry will still be possible in Germany, provided that economical, ecological and social matters continue to sing in harmony.
