The study focuses on the growth and state of four tree and shrub species: Robinia pseudoacacia, Fraxinus americana, Eleagnus angustifolia, Celtis australis - in three experimental plantations in the Devnja industrial region. The experimental plantations are located at 500, 1.500 and 15.000 m away from the source of pollution. The height and diameter growth was observed as well as the phenological development, the fruit mass and the presence of visible damages on the foliage. It was found that the air pollution has negative impact on the growth and state of the studied species - much more substantial close to the source of pollution and receding with growing distance away from the latter.
