The study material consists of 23 sample plot pairs, randomly selected for low thinning or single tree selection in Norway spruce-dominated stands covering Finland. The removal (d1.3 > 9 cm) was approx. 69 mß ha®Ü in low thinning and 94 mß ha®Ü in single tree collection. Low thinning was mainly aimed at cutting small to medium sized trees and single-tree selection medium to big trees. The annual volume increment was 4.6 mß ha®Ü (2,4) %) in low thinning and 5.4 mß ha®Ü (3,6 %) in single tree selection (p-values 0,013 and 0,000; Wilcoxon pairwise test). In addition to this, single-tree selection also had small trees (from breast height to d1.3 = 9 cm) about 1300 ha®Ü.
